About this tool: Extract a video frame
Use this video frame extractor to turn a moment in an MP4 or WebM into a still image. Choose the time, preview the decoded frame and download PNG or JPEG. It is useful when a browser screenshot includes playback controls or scales down the picture.
What you can do
MP4 or WebM · up to 50 MB and 120 seconds · 4096 pixels per side and 8.4 megapixels. Codec support depends on your browser.
PNG keeps decoded transparency when available; JPEG uses a white background and lossy re-encoding. No batch extraction or video editing.
How to use it: Extract a video frame
- Choose a video
- Use the video controls or slider to choose a point. Capture pauses playback and saves the nearest decoded frame, not a guaranteed exact frame number.
- Capture and preview · Download to keep your result. Local tools do not add it to generation History.
Choose a clear frame before downloading
Pause near the moment you want, then move the time slider slightly to compare nearby frames. Look for open eyes, readable product details and a stable pose. Motion blur, compression artifacts and dark exposure come from the source video; extracting a frame does not repair them or add detail.
Ways to use a video still
Video thumbnails
Choose a frame that explains the clip at a glance. Check the subject and crop after extraction before using it as a cover.
Image references
Save a composition, costume or lighting reference from a video you can use. Import the still into an image workflow separately; this tool does not generate a new image.
Product and scene review
Inspect packaging, gestures or background continuity without replaying the whole clip. The download keeps the source pixel dimensions, rather than the size of the on-page preview.
Video frame extraction questions
Is the video uploaded, and does extraction cost credits?
The file is processed in your browser on your device. Extraction does not upload it or use generation credits.
Should I save PNG or JPEG?
PNG avoids another lossy image compression step and preserves decoded transparency when available. JPEG produces a lossy image on a white background; it cannot preserve transparency. Neither format restores detail lost in the video.
Can I select an exact frame number?
The controls select a time in seconds. Capture pauses playback and saves the nearest decoded frame, so an exact frame number is not guaranteed.
Can I extract a sharper or higher-resolution image?
The output uses the source video dimensions. Try a clearer neighboring frame if movement looks blurred; extraction does not upscale or remove blur.
Does it work on a phone?
Use a browser that can play the file’s codec. MP4 or WebM support and available memory vary by device; a smaller supported file may help.
Can I download all frames or find the result in History?
Each capture prepares one image. Download it to keep it: local results are not saved in generation History. Batch extraction and video editing are not included.
