About this tool: Compress image
Reduce file size locally with JPEG or WebP quality controls.
Choose JPEG or WebP and lower quality gradually while keeping the image’s pixel dimensions. Compare the result around lettering, smooth gradients and fine textures, where compression artifacts can appear first. A smaller upload is useful only when the remaining detail is sufficient for its destination.
Preview the change before downloading. Keep the original dimensions when detail matters, and reduce dimensions only when your destination requires it.
What you can do
Use an image or video you own or have permission to modify. Keep the original; a crop, format conversion or quality setting may remove pixels, transparency or fine detail.
Choose JPEG or WebP, lower quality gradually, and compare file size and fine detail. Compression keeps the pixel dimensions; not every setting produces a smaller file.
Transparent pixels become white in JPEG.
JPEG and WebP are re-encoded with the selected quality. Some image detail may be lost.
The interface reports output bytes and the size change; some settings can produce a larger file. Adjust quality or format if that happens. Re-encoding is lossy, and repeated compression can compound artifacts. Use resizing when the image also needs fewer pixels, rather than expecting quality settings to change dimensions.
